Getting Personal with Mike:

Born (hometown):  Rugby, North Dakota

Sports I competed in and the one I excelled in: Football, basketball, baseball and track & field. I was the best in football. It’s public knowledge I’m not the best at golf.

Favorite sports moment: As a huge sports fan, I can’t limit it to one. My top-three include the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey team’s gold medal run (I definitely believe in miracles); the 2016 Chicago Cubs win in game 7 of the World Series; and at US Bank Stadium watching the Stephon Diggs “Minneapolis Miracle” in the NFC Championship game against New Orleans with my son (who also went crazy), while texting my wife and daughters. Skol!

Favorite sports team: Again, being a huge sports fan, I can’t limit it to one. My favorites are the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves and any current or past team my kids play(ed) on, not necessarily in that order.

Hobbies: Running, biking, weight training and golf. Thanks to my kids, I’ve also enjoyed stints coaching football, basketball, baseball, soccer and softball.

Family: Wife, Michelle, and children Ali, Bailey and Grant.

Resides: Victoria, Minnesota

About Mike:

Mike co-founded Accelerated Sports Therapy and Fitness in 2006 after identifying a critical need for providing advanced physical therapy care to patients in the Twin Cities area. A commitment to providing lifelong physical well-being through state of the art therapy programs led to the launching of Accelerated Sports Therapy and Fitness, which has treated over 12,000 patients since opening in 2006.

Prior to Accelerated Sports, Mike served as clinic supervisor and director of physical therapy at the Minnesota Sports Medicine Clinic in Eden Prairie. Under his leadership, the sports residency program became just the fifth in the country to be given credentialed status by the American Physical Therapy Association. While at MSMC, Mike created two specialized patient care programs - the Next Step Program, a post-rehab lower extremity training program; and the Throwers Injury Program, a program that specializes in evaluation and treatment of overhead throwing injuries.

Mike has spent his career lecturing to more than 1,000 healthcare professionals across the country on various physical therapy and sports medicine topics, including shoulder dysfunction, throwing injuries and rehabilitation, patellofemoral dysfunction and exercise prescription/rehabilitation. In addition, he has coauthored chapters addressing shoulder injuries in young athletes in Sports Medicine for Young Athletes, Fairview Press, as well as strength training for older adults in Staying Strong: A Senior’s Guide to a More Active and Independent Life, Fairview Press.

I just wanted to say thank you, Mike, for everything you did this summer to help get me back to college soccer in the Big Ten.
