Successful Surgery???

We often hear an orthopedic surgery declared “successful” on the day the surgery occurs…this seems premature! So, how do we as clinicians, and you as a patient, determine if your surgery was in fact a success?

Here are 4 questions you should ask to determine if your orthopedic SURGERY was a SUCCESS: ⠀

1.  Do you still have pain?⠀

2. Do you have weakness?⠀

3. Do you have instability (e.g. does it feel like your hip, knee, ankle, or shoulder is going to give way)?⠀

4. Have you been able to get back to the activities you love (that you were expecting to)?⠀

If you’ve had surgery in the recent or even far past and aren’t happy with your results, consider setting up an appointment to see a physical therapist. At Accelerated Sports Therapy and Fitness we’ve established ourselves in the sports medicine community. One result of that is when patients haven’t had success elsewhere, many of the physicians we work with send these patients to us to help those people get the results they want. It takes experience and expertise to identify why patients aren’t where they want to be and then to put together a plan to allow them to have success. ⠀
